Oil City, Pennsylvania The First Oil in the USA

Oil City, PA

Photo Credit:   Mine.  This is my husband’s Parents house when they lived there.

My Husband’s family lived there for many years and the lived in a house that was 100 years old.  Oil City is situated on the Allegheny River Creek in Venango County, Pennsylvania. They took us on a tour of the area and it was all dismantled and the buildings that were there were all falling down.

Oil City was the first to have an Oil Well on its land. It was the first to produce and refine petroleum in the United States.  It was in 1859 when Colonel Edwin Drake first built upon the Oil reserves there.  At that time it is said that the oil literally sat on top of the earth.  He was the first to drill that oil out of the ground.  In its heyday they shipped more than one million barrels of oil in a single year.

When Oil was there the town was full of well off people.  There were also those who were workers in the oil plants that were also not so well to do.  They lived in a place called Pithole located on Oil Creek.  In 1866 is when the banks collapsed and that is when the petroleum industry in Oil City and Pithole started to crumble.  Many people left the area.  The population dropped from 20,000 to just 2,000 in one year.

You can take a tour on the Oil City/Titusville Railroad and see all the places where Oil Was first refined in the United States at +http://www.octrr.org/

Have you ever heard of the Radium Girls?

They were factory workers at a Radium factory dating from 1902 to 1933 and a little bit beyond.  The girls started to get really sick and the government paid someone to pose as a Doctor and tell these girls lies about what they had.  Please read the full horrifying story of these girls and the others that were involved here:  +http://www.damninteresting.com/undark-and-the-radium-girls/

This hiding things from others and covering things up really makes me mad.  I tell others to ask questions and get educated on their own.  They all think that I am some kind of nut when I give them information they don't think supports their cause or disease.  Most often it is with someone who has a disease they can't figure out the cause or it is some kind of cancer.  They ignore me when I do the research and give them that information.  Like I said ask questions and if that does not satisfy you then ask more and go to the internet or the library and research everything that you can.

Radium Girls and Government Underhandedness

I have been lied to by Doctors before.  I knew that what he was going to give me was something the Pharms were pushing.  I kid you not that I got research o9n my own for something more natural than a pesticide that kills rats.  I often wonder about how and what else it kills.  I read an article once that told how pesticides for small mammal, such as mice elevate into the food that we eat.  That is dangerous stuff.

Please Be Careful about what is being prescribed for you, what kinds of things your body is experiencing and what Doctor's, The FDA and others say that is safe when in fact it is not.

Please go to the site mentioned a read it.  You will be shocked.

It is time for us to WAKE UP!

Flowing Waters

This is just a small part of what is known as Mill Creek that meanders and winds around these mountains of where I live.  There is fish in these waters.  This picture was taken in a part of the creek that is wide.  Though there may be wider areas, this is the one that I could get a good enough picture to show and share with my friends and those who read my stuff. Some days there are fishermen standing along the side of the creek hoping to catch a fish.  Sometimes you will see people walking along the edges of the water.  Many times I just like to look at the top of the water and gaze at the reflections of the sky.  There is much to do around a creek like this.  The best thing is just listening to the waters running and being content and taking my cares away with it down stream.

What do you like to do at the water’s edge?

This part of Mill Creek runs through my neighborhood.  It is part of the creek area where kids and parents can sit by the waters.  It is deep on one side and there is like a sand bar that you can walk across it to the other side where there is an island.  It is sort of like I would call the song title to this place as an Island In The Stream. On the rocks that I was standing there is a ledge below.  Kids and adults would sit there and dangle their feet in the water. There used to be a picnic table on the right side of me down on a sanded ground, but most of the bullies demolished that.  We have a lot of bullies in our neighborhood that like to destroy stuff, just for the heck of it.
So ends this part of the creek stories that I am telling.

This bridge in is a park about an hour away from where I live.  It is a very old park.  Funny me, I was going to write where this is but my mind has forgotten already.  I do remember that we came across a one lane bridge and you could take a right or a left as the road split.  On the right it took you through a quaint old town.  We took the left and it brought us down to a large brick (old Civil War type) house or building.  We had Duke, our dog, with us and so did many other people have their dogs with them.  It was a great open space to walk around and just take a leisurely stroll.  We did not go up to cross this bridge.  It is a remembrance of our past in this country.  There were several was here that gained us our independence.
I like this scene because it kind of takes you back in time.  I am not so fond of the wars, but I am fond of the fashions they had then.

This is still part of Mill Creek.  We drove around one day and we found this road that went down almost into Virginia.  We live in West Virginia but we are like 30 miles or less from the Virginia boarder.  Well on this part of the road there was an entrance into a small park.  You could see it from the road.  On the road that we were on it eventually came out to a private property but before you go to that property there was s shooting range.  We did not go to the shooting range but stayed on this very skinny road.  It was so skinny that in parts you had to be careful where your tires were on it.  We didn’t want to see the creek up close and personal you know.  Anyway this park the creek was between this road and the other side was flat and there were a few picnic tables there.  This is a picture just before you get to it on the way back. I thought it was so serene and nobody was there.

I took this photo of the three rivers that meet in the town of Pittsburgh in the state of Pennsylvania.  In 2009 we went to a Knights of Columbus Convention in Pittsburgh.  While the men are in all day meetings, the ladies get to visit places in the nearby towns, go shopping sight see and have lunch together.  Oh it was a wonderful time here.  Too bad I cannot have more pictures because to get this picture we rode up on a trolley car to the top of the mountain there.  I am scared of heights and a couple of the ladies helped me get there and walk out onto the platform that was there.  I was very afraid that I would fall or that I would drop the camera.  These three rivers merge into one further down the river.  I do not think that you can see the dividing line where the different waters meet, but I did try to take a picture of it.

This is by far my most favorite picture that I have taken of a body of water. It was taken just recently at the end of summer.  The pink flowers were what I wanted get in the picture as a foreground of the Gazebo that looks over the pond.  The day that I took this, there was a family that were fishing in the pond.  Big sister was trying to teach her little brother how to catch a fish.  The park does stock the pond so you can fish there.  It was like a sight right out of the Mark Twain novels.  Alas, it is only a 5 acre pond in a park that is nearby.  It has many ducks and geese that live there and there are areas to have weddings and lots of recreational spots there.

A samll creek that runs down through the western side of the valley in Back Creek Valley.  I took this picture becasue it was so beautiful.  I think that we were on East Ganoe Town Road.  There was a housing developement there that I had not realized was there.  I took this in Jauary 2015.  The creek was partially frozen over, but the small waterfall that was there was th prettiest things that I have seen in these parts and so I wanted to shre it with all of you.  I am not even sure what the name of this streem is.  One of the pictures is of the waterfall and the other is of the bridge someone built over the stream.
